Nephron's Lou Kennedy out as CEO in 'leadership transition'. What we know.
The long-time CEO of Lexington County-based Nephron Pharmaceuticals is no longer with the company, Nephron announced on Friday. Lou Kennedy, who had served in the role since 2007 and overseen the opening of Nephron’s large manufacturing center near Cayce in 2015, has departed the company, according to a press release announcing a “leadership transition.” Haywood Miller was named as the interim CEO. “I want to thank Lou for her leadership and her many years of service to Nephron,” Richard Shinder, identified as Nephron’s “independent manager,” said in a statement. “We are pleased to welcome Haywood Miller, whose operational expertise and deep familiarity of Nephron’s business makes him the right leader to advance the Company’s transformation, and execute on its growth initiatives.” A South Carolina native, Kennedy spearheaded the move of Nephron’s headquarters from Orlando, Florida, to South Carolina. At one point, the company’s Lexington County headquarters employed 1,200 people full-time manufacturing pharmaceuticals and medical products. As of Friday, she was still listed as Nephron’s owner on her LinkedIn profile . But the company ran into trouble in 2022 when it had to recall around 2 million individual products because of sterility concerns in the manufacturing process at the center. Inspectors
