LIMERICK, Pa. (CBS) -- Don't be alarmed! The nuclear power plant in Limerick, Pennsylvania is about to test its emergency siren. The next test is coming up at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 3, 2024, and the alarm will sound for two minutes.The Limerick Generation Station conducts two biannual tests of its emergency siren where it sounds for a full two minutes. One is on the first Monday in June and the next is on the first Monday in December.There are also monthly tests that last one second and may not be audible to residents, according to the Montgomery County website.Energy company Constellation owns the 600-acre plant and its twin 500-foot-tall boiling water reactors. The facility is right on the bank of the Schuylkill River and draws its cooling water from the river.The first reactor began operating in 1986 and the second started generating power in 1990.
