After a nearly four-hour hearing featuring more than three hours of ardent public comment, the supervisors voted to essentially confirm the finding of county Registrar of Voters Tim Dupuis that proponents gathered enough valid signatures -- 74,757 -- to place the recall of Price on a ballot.

The board also voted to schedule a special meeting on May 14 to set a date for such an election and to decide if they want to call a special election or consolidate the recall with the November general election.

If Price is successfully recalled, the Board of Supervisors would pick a temporary replacement to serve out the remainder of her term in office. A permanent replacement would be selected by voters in the next election after that term expires.

Vallejo City Hall was closed to the public Wednesday afternoon due to a protest that moved into the building's second floor business area, according to city officials.

According to a statement sent out at about 2:40 p.m., city officials said the number of people in that area of the building had exceeded its capacity, so City Hall was closed for the rest of the day.

Also, people who want to do business with the city on Thursday will have to have an appointment.

The protest appeared to be in response to the City Council's decision to effectively deny a permit for a new charter high school in downtown Vallejo.

The Oakland Ballers on Wednesday released more details of their $1.6 million plan to renovate the independent professional baseball team's new home, Raimondi Park.

The team's first home game of its inaugural season in the Pioneer League is scheduled for June 4. The Ballers will play 48 games at the West Oakland park. The Oakland City Council last month signed off on the team's planned upgrades, which are being funded by private investors.

The Ballers said Raimondi Park will be accessible via Oakland's reservation system for community members to enjoy whenever the field isn't in play. This accessibility extends to the video scoreboard, perfect for hosting community movie nights.

The playground area near the ballpark has been repaired and updated for families and children to enjoy during Ballers' games and more.

All of the streets and sidewalks immediately surrounding the park will be paved by opening day. There will be new dugouts, batter's eye, netting, fencing and backstop. There will be 4,000 seats with a "colorful" park layout with easy access to restrooms, food, and drinks.

The victim was given CPR by officers, while paramedics provided first aid, but the man eventually died after he was transported to a hospital, police said.

Two men suffered serious injuries Tuesday night in a three-vehicle crash involving an alleged drunk driver in Brentwood.

Police said they received a call at 9:26 p.m. about a traffic collision involving multiple vehicles on westbound Balfour Road at McViking Way.

The driver of a Chevrolet Silverado, identified as 26-year-old Zachary Rau of Antioch, was reportedly speeding on westbound Balfour Road when he collided with a Toyota RAV-4 driven by a 31-year-old man from Brentwood. The Toyota then collided with a Honda HR-V driven by a 37-year-old Brentwood man.

A passenger in Rau's vehicle, a 26-year-old Antioch man, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment but is expected to survive. Officers found the driver of the Toyota unconscious and unresponsive. Police said he had major injuries and required extrication from the vehicle before being airlifted to a hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries and remains "unstable," police said Wednesday.

Rau was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and subsequently was arrested and booked at the Martinez Detention Facility on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, causing injury.

The city of Pittsburg will soon repair about 2 miles of pavement at a cost of $4.4 million as part of a rehabilitation plan for high-traffic roadways.

The first one, currently underway, will provide pavement rehabilitation and new striping along a half-mile segment of Loveridge Road from state Highway 4 to Pittsburg-Antioch Highway -- the portion of roadway where West 10th Street turns into East 14th Street. Improvements are expected to take about four to six weeks, with the majority of the work performed in the evening and overnight.

The second is for East Leland Road in two separate places -- from Bailey Road to John Henry Johnson Parkway and from Crestview Drive to Railroad Avenue. Construction is expected to begin in the coming weeks, according to John Samuelson, Pittsburg public works director and city engineer.

A federal grand jury has indicted four people, alleging they conspired with an Oakland street gang to rob several high-end Bay Area retail stores.

The indictment of Jakari Jenkins, Demarco Barnett, Garland Rabon, and Keanna Smith-Stewart, filed April 18 and unsealed Friday, alleges that by March 2022, the four defendants were all members of, or had association with, an Oakland-based street gang called the Ghost Town gang.

The indictment describes a series of armed robberies and burglaries that were allegedly committed by groups of co-conspirators.

The quartet is charged with multiple crimes related to robbery and fraud and, if convicted, could face 10 to 20 years in prison and paying restitution and fines of up to $250,000.

The Bay Area's recent stretch of dry, mild weather will give way to wind and rain this weekend as a cold low-pressure system moves in from the northern Pacific Ocean.

The forecast highs Wednesday will be in the 60s at the coast and along the bay and in the 70s and 80s inland, with breezes between 15 mph and 20 mph and gusts up to 35 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

On Friday, increasing clouds will characterize the evening hours, with rain developing in the North Bay and spreading southeast across the Bay Area on Saturday.

Saturday's temperatures will be noticeably cooler, with daytime highs 10 to 18 degrees cooler inland compared to Friday's highs as rain rolls over the region.

Forecast rainfall amounts vary from .25 to .70 of an inch in the North Bay, .15 to .25 of an inch in low elevations to 0.40 of an inch in the hills and higher elevations, according to the weather service.

The rain will be gone by Sunday and warmer weather is expected to return by the middle of next week.
