City of St. Louis hires man who embezzled $500K from SLU
ST. LOUIS (First Alert 4) -- A man who stole more than $500,000 from Saint Louis University has been hired by the City of St. Louis. In 2019, Bretton DeLaria was employed by Saint Louis University to run its 1818 Program, which allows high school students to get college credit. His alma mater also honored him with a Young Alumni Award in 2019. However, that same year, federal prosecutors say he created and submitted fraudulent and fictitious invoices that SLU paid out.

JENNINGS — Police on Sunday identified the man who was killed in a shooting that injured four others in Koeneman Park. Police received several calls for the incident just after 5 p.m. Friday in the park, near the 9500 block of Marveline Drive and the 2600 block of Shannon Avenue.

Accused drug cartel broker, 28 others indicted in St. Louis
A man accused of being a broker for Mexican drug cartels and 28 others have been indicted on drug and money laundering conspiracy charges in St. Louis. Genaro Rosas-Vargas, 39, also known by other names including “Chilango,” and the 28 others were indicted by a grand jury in U.S. District Court in St. Louis on May 24 on one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, five kilograms or more of cocaine, and 500 grams or more of methamphetamine. Rosas-Vargas and nine others also face one count of money laundering conspiracy, and others face additional drug and firearm charges.
Two dead in reported murder-suicide
Two people are dead in what authorities believe was a murder-suicide over the weekend. The Madison County Sheriff's Department says two people were found dead in Granite City on Saturday afternoon. The victims, ages 88 and 39, were found in a home in the 1000 block of Burns Road following a 9-1-1 call.
Man sentenced to 23 years in prison for shooting at officers in 2021
ST. LOUIS (First Alert 4) -- A St. Louis County man was sentenced to more than 23 years in prison for shooting at police and federal task force officers in 2021. Derek D. Brown, 50, of Jennings, previously pleaded guilty to assault on a federal officer and two counts of discharging a gun during a crime of violence.
