TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ( WIAT ) – Nearly 6,000 students will receive a degree from the University of Alabama this spring.

The first of three commencement ceremonies for the university was on Friday.

Some graduates aim to immediately enter the workforce after graduation, such as Harrison Squadron and John Rubio, who graduated with degrees in sports management.

“I’m trying to work in sports data right now,” Squadron said. “I’m in the middle of applications with companies like FanDuel to try to get my foot in the door that way.”

Both described the job hunt as a grind. Rubio said he is looking at stats and scouting opportunities in baseball “back home.”

Other graduates said they will pursue their master’s in order to have a better opportunity to obtain jobs in their fields.

“Especially with my field being so social I feel like a master’s will help me in applying for jobs in more professional settings,” Je’Tori Samples said.

“Generation Z is wanting to own houses, but job pay don’t change so going back to school and getting a lot of education, being multi-versed and knowing how to do multiple things, you can pick up something else and go to another,” Morghan Cannon said.
