KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — With wins on both Friday and Saturday against Alabama, the Lady Vols had a chance to secure their third SEC sweep of the year.

However, the Crimson Tide’s Kristen White beat the throw to first for what would have been Alabama’s third out of the fifth inning. That play allowed Kenleigh Cahalan to cross home plate and put up the only score of the afternoon.

Tennessee went threw up three down at the plate in four innings, the Tide keeping the Lady Vols’ offense limited throughout. Tennessee had just two hits, both singles.

Payton Gottshall got the start in the circle, pitching into the fifth inning. Karlyn Pickens came in to relieve her following the Tide’s run.

The run allowed while Gottshall was in the circle ended her streak of consecutive innings without a run allowed. Her streak extended through 29 innings.

UP NEXT: The Lady Vols will play their final regular season series against Kentucky. The series kicks off on Thursday at 7 p.m.
