    Man sentenced for area burglaries

    During an April 16, 2024, hearing in Sawyer County Circuit Court, a Turtle Lake man was sentenced to four years probation and assessed restitution for cabin break-ins in the towns of Meteor, Weirgor and Winter during early 2021.

    Kevin Gregory Johnson, 49, who is currently incarcerated in the Stanley Correctional Institution, had been sentenced earlier to prison in Barron, Rusk and Washburn counties.

    Johnson was charged with a string of more than 25 burglaries in Barron, Rusk and Sawyer counties. An Exeland woman was charged as an accomplice in one of the Sawyer County burglaries.

    Appearing before Judge John Yackel, Johnson received the following sentences in the Sawyer County incidents. The sentences are concurrent with each other and consecutive to the sentences he received in other counties.

    Theft of a .22-caliber revolver April 16, 2021, from a cabin on Bjelland Lane in the town of Meteor. Charges of burglary, felony theft and criminal damage to property were dismissed but read in.

    Burglary April 20, 2021, at a cabin on Taylor Road, town of Weirgor; placed on four years probation, $518 costs. Two counts of felony theft and one count of criminal damage to property were dismissed but read in. Johnson was assessed $4,229.60 restitution.

    Theft of a Taurus .40-caliber handgun from a residence on Old J Road in the town of Winter April 11, 2021; four years probation and $518 costs; charge of burglary dismissed but read in.

    Burglary at a cabin and garage on Reppert Road, town of Weirgor, March 14 2021; charge of felony theft dismissed but read in. Items taken included a chainsaw, leaf blower, welder, battery charger, surround sound speaker set and hand tools placed on four years probation and $518 costs; assessed $2,077.80 restitution.

    Dismissed but read in were Sawyer County charges against Johnson of burglary and theft May 12, 2021; May 5, 2021; and April 13, 2021.

    Sentences which Johnson previously received in other counties were: Burglary, Washburn County, one year in prison plus four years extended supervision imposed March 29, 2023; burglary while arming himself with a dangerous weapon, Rusk County, May 9, 2023, five years prison plus three years extended supervision imposed Dec. 22, 2023; and burglary, Barron County, four years prison plus four years extended supervision, imposed May 27, 2022.
