Turner Turnpike goes cashless this week

Cash is no longer king on the Turner Turnpike between Tulsa and Oklahoma City.  As of May 1st the toll road has gone completely cashless. No more toll booths to drop you spare change into.

As of Wednesday drivers will drive right through the tolls and a picture of their license plate will be taken to be billed later in the mail.

State officials say the move will make traveling on turnpikes safer and help traffic flow more quickly. The move is thanks to the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority’s new PlatePay system, which replaces toll booths.

Drivers with a PikePass can continue as usual while prices stay the same. Breeze through without a pass and it will cost you $8.75 instead of 5 bucks for a two-axle vehicle.

Cash customers also may go to www.platepay.com to look up their license plate number and pay tolls conveniently online about five days after travel occurred.

OTA says it plans to have all the state’s turnpikes converted to PlatePay by the end of 2024.
