RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. (WLOS) — Few details have been released by officials after a suspect was taken into custody following a nine-hour standoff in Rutherfordton. The Rutherfordton Police Department says that on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023, afternoon the department was notified that the US Marshalls Service and the Rutherford County Sherriff's Office had secured a search warrant for an address on N. Meridian Street in Rutherfordton in an effort to secure an individual with outstanding warrants from another jurisdiction.

City manager declares Stage 1 Water Shortage Advisory
For the second time in two months, the City of Hendersonville is asking water customers to limit non-essential water use due to lower-than-normal levels in the water supply. According to a news release, to ensure adequate water supply is available for essential use and public safety, City Manager John Connet has declared a Stage 1 Water Shortage Advisory beginning Sept. 29 at midnight. This advisory comes just over a month from the last one that was issued on Aug. 24 and was lifted on Aug. 29 after water levels improved.

Hiker falls to death at North Carolina waterfall overlook
(REEMS CREEK, N.C.) -- A woman who was hiking through Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina this weekend fell 150 feet from an overlook to her death, park officials said. Nancy Sampson, 61, of Greer, South Carolina, reportedly fell off a steep cliff at the Glassmine Falls Overlook around noon Saturday, according to the National Parks Service. NPS Law Enforcement Rangers and first responders from Reems Creek Fire Department quickly responded to the scene and found Sampson fell 150 feet below the overlook and had succumbed to her injuries, the NPS said. The fire department members rappelled from the top of the overlook to the site where Sampson's body was discovered, the Reems Creek Fire Department said.

Bringle Documentary Accepted into Tryon International Film Festival
Bringle: A Tale of Two Makers, a documentary full feature film produced by Toe River Arts and directed by Vincent Martinez, was recently accepted into the Tryon International Film Festival, and will be shown the weekend of October 6 – 8 in Tryon, North Carolina. The film features the renowned area artists, Cynthia Bringle and Edwina Bringle. Over the last year, filmmaker Vincent Martinez recorded extensive interviews, creating a documentary film to showcase the lives of these two remarkable women. As part of the film festival, an exhibition of Cynthia and Edwina’s work will be hosted at the Tryon Arts & Crafts School in Tryon NC. Authorities say the incident happened Saturday outside of Staples. A person is accused of stealing a PlayStation 5 from the storm. Officials say an employee followed that person out of the building and then got onto the suspect's car. The employee then fell off the car when the suspect drove away.
