On May 8, the Troy Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the Wendy’s Restaurant in Troy.

According to a release from Troy Fire Chief Michael Stephens, the Pike County Communications District received the call of a structure fire on May 8 at 10:01 a.m. located in the 1100 block of U.S. Highway 231 South at Wendy’s. According to the release, firefighters arrived on scene less than two minutes after the initial call and observed “moderate smoke” coming from the business.

Firefighters made entry into the business and located a fire in a commercial deep fat fryer behind the front counter. The fire was brought under control by firefighters quickly but the fire had progressed into the exhaust duct leading to the business’ roof. Firefighters had to ladder onto the roof to completely extinguish the fire.

There were no occupants inside the building at the time of Troy FD’s arrival and all employees safely evacuated themselves, according to the release. The Troy Fire Marshal’s office is currently investigating the incident. The Troy Police Department, Haynes Ambulance and City of Troy Utilities assisted Troy FD in the incident.

“We would like to remind everyone to diligently practice fire safety,” Stephens said. “The Troy Fire Department would like to urge everyone to practice fire prevention daily and to test their smoke alarms monthly.”
