Triple-digit heat returns to Redding, but summer so far less extreme than past years
REDDING, Calif. — Triple-digit temperatures are returning to the Northstate, but meteorologists say this summer has not been as extreme as some residents may remember. While California is no stranger to summer heat, the region’s dry climate makes it different from what many Americans experience across the eastern half of the country.

10 things to remove from your car during a heat wave in Redding
With Redding heading headlong into some serious heat this holiday weekend and beyond, you probably need to switch on your air conditioners for the season — if you haven't already. You may also want to check what's in your car. Just like when its cold outside, there are certain things you shouldn't leave in the car during scorching temperatures. Temperatures inside your vehicle can become dangerous very quickly. Temperatures inside a vehicle can rise 20 degrees in just 10 minutes. Tragically, an average of 37 children die each year from heatstroke in vehicles, the California Department of Transportation said. "Temperatures inside a vehicle can rise 20 degrees in just 10 minutes," the agency said. "Even on a 60-degree day, a child can die in a hot car. Never leave a child or pet unattended in a vehicle, not even for a moment." More than half of the child heatstroke deaths in vehicles result from a parent or caregiver forgetting a child in the car, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Here's what to know as the Redding area heats up for the summer to keep you and your family safe: Never, ever leave your children or pets unattended

Weekend Forecast: Feeling fantastic for the 4th
REDDING, Calif. — July started on a cool note, but we're back on track -- and maybe slightly on the warm side -- as we enter a festive holiday weekend across the Northstate. Temperatures today should run just a few degrees above normal, meaning isolated triple digits in Shasta and Tehama Counties, with mid to upper 90s elsewhere in the valley. Trinity County will also top out in that territory, but other mountain communities will generally max out around 90. Sunshine is the story all across the board, at least away from the North Coast. There, a low deck of clouds will sit stubborn for much of the day, but you may catch some sunbreaks into the afternoon and evening. While winds look light throughout the region, it's still incredibly important to be fire safe with everything you do to celebrate the Fourth of July!
