New mural on East State Street
Mandi “Miss Birdy” Caskey’s outline for a mural on the East State St./Route 33 Underpass waits to be painted. On Monday night and during the weekend, Caskey completed the first steps in painting the mural, which was commissioned by Athens County Children Services. According to the agency, the mural will represent the Children Services’ history and recognize what the community does for each other, and for children.

In March, RPG Management began construction on a retaining wall and joint Chipotle-Starbucks location at 960 E. State St., according to the company’s Facebook page. In a previous article published by The Post, Mayor Steve Patterson said the additions to East State Street’s “corporate chain corridor” may not affect Friendly Paws or Kindred Market, but that is unsurprising; Friendly Paws is a pet supplies and grooming business, and Kindred Market is a grocery store and café. Local restaurants and coffee may fare badly from the presence of new popular competitors.

ATHENS, OH – In partnership with the Mount Zion Black Cultural Center, WOUB Public Media is screening the new documentary called THE LINCOLN SCHOOL STORY as part of the kick-off event for Berry Day Week in Athens on May 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the Athena. Cat spay/neuter clinics scheduled
LOGAN — The Pet Orphanage is sponsoring two cat spay/neuter clinics for May/early June. Please pre-register and pre-pay (cash only) on Saturday, May 18, from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the Logan Hocking Library meeting room on Walnut Street side. Please arrive early as spaces are limited and are first come, first served. There will be a limit of two cats per person — $80/female and $50/male (which includes the rabies vaccine).
