Pet of the Week: Pretzel
When visiting furry friends in our green community room, you will see a somewhat shy tabby peeking out at you. You may not even notice him in the cat tree as he snoozes, or quietly observes. He likely won’t come out to say hi, he needs you to make the first move. A gentle chin scratch and some sweet talk is all it takes for him to decide you’re a friend, not a foe. His willingness to accept affection is quite remarkable considering his life experiences before joining us here at the SPCA of Hancock County. Pretzel was found as a stray and from the appearance of his back legs, concerned citizens believe he may have broken them. While we aren’t certain of his time before here, he was likely born with his feet as they are. It is plausible that early intervention when he was a kitten could have corrected them, or at least helped. It’s a bit of a miracle that Pretzel survived outdoors with his condition, and we have therefore titled him “The Bravest Boy in the Whole Universe”. The first question typically asked is how his feet impact his life, and the answer is really amazing; Pretzel has learned to accommodate his back legs and navigates the litter box and community room just fine. In fact, his favorite resting spot is near the top of our cat tree! We provide him with some accommodations, like a ramp to the cat tree, but he often just climbs up his own way. Pretzel’s only requests for a new home include that he is loved for who he is and that you have the comfiest snoozing spots in the world. If this sounds like you, please fill out an application for Pretzel, or come meet him at 141 Bar Harbor Road in Trenton!
