Extra Effort: Maia Lorengo making impact at Tremont away from softball too

TREMONT, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — It’s hard for Maia Lorengo to believe she’s had her senior day for softball and she’s down to her final week as a high school student.

“I didn’t expect it to go so fast. Everyone says it does, you think it doesn’t but it really does, especially with softball and everything,” Lorengo said. “Looking back where I started and where I am now is crazy.”

Where the Tremont senior is now is a top player in the area. The slugger and pitcher is committed to play softball at Lincoln Land Community College.

The national Honor Society student has been taking college courses in high school which gives her a head start at Lincoln Land. She’s been involved in student council for four years, helping plan various events at Tremont and she’s one of the student voices does the morning announcements at school.

“It’s never racking at first. You think, ‘what if I mess up? What if I say something wrong?’ It’s going to the whole school,” Lorengo said. “I’ve loved having some say in what goes on with the student body and being involved.”

Now she hopes to help her softball team win a conference title and then make a deep run in the postseason. On graduation day Lorengo says she’ll look back and be proud of her days at Tremont.

“I’ll be proud of all that I’ve accomplished. I’ll be happy to see all the students I’ve impacted. I love to see them continue and growing. I hope I made some impact in the school,” said Lorengo. “I’ll miss it. I’ll miss being involved.”
