TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – Walmart is announcing a big change at one of its facilities in northeast Kansas which will impact more than 300 employees.

27 News reached out to Walmart to learn more of its plans regarding the sortable fulfillment center located in Edgerton at 30801 W. 191st Street. Kansas WORKS recently posted a Worker Adjustment & Retraining Notification ( WARN ) to its website showing 318 employees at this Walmart location would be impacted by an impending decision from the nationwide retail chain.

Camille Dunn, a Walmart spokeswoman, told 27 News a decision has been made to shift focus onto a non-sortable fulfillment center located in Topeka that opened in 2021. The company is now relocating operations in Edgerton to the Topeka facility at 1303 SW Innovation Parkway.

“This relocation of operations is designed to support our evolving strategy and growing business and to help us to fully utilize our assets,” Dunn said in a written response. “As the fulfillment operation relocates, Sam’s Club Supply Chain will transition into the Edgerton building.”

The employees at the Edgerton facility are being offered the chance to transfer into a new role at Sam’s Club, at the Topeka facility or at a next-generation fulfillment center of their choice.

Dunn said many employees have chosen to stay in Edgerton to transfer into a role with Sam’s Club. All other Walmart workers are being offered a $7,500 transfer bonus to the Topeka location or another fulfillment center out of state in Texas, Pennsylvania, Illinois or Indiana.
