Governor Evers visits Tomah while on 'Pothole Patrol'

TOMAH, Wis. (WKBT) -- Tuesday Governor Tony Evers visited Tomah to help local construction workers fill potholes.

This is the fourth year the governor has gone on "pothole patrol."

As part of the state budget, Evers approved $100,000,000 for local transportation improvements.

Evers said he is also trying to raise awareness for construction safety, adding that 10 people died last year in work zones.

"I just find that unacceptable because these people-- whether they're out on the highway or doing local stuff-- they have things marked off, there's all sorts of things that would prevent people from, frankly losing their lives... these people work hard they should be able to go home after a day," said Governor Evers.

According to the Wisconsin DOT, there was one work zone crash ever 4 hours in 2023.
