Hometown apparel moves to new location in Downtown Chillicothe
CHILLICOTHE— Hometown Apparel has been the place to go to get custom shirts, hats and more to represent your favorite local team and to get custom apparel made for employees. The store recently celebrated a move to a new Downtown Chillicothe location. More from Downtown businesses: Apollo Records moves to a larger store Those at Hometown Appareal have been screen printing and embroidering since 2008. The first storefront for the business opened in Chillicothe in 2016 and since then, the store and the screen printing warehouse have moved multiple times. With this most recent move, the screen printing work will continue to be done just outside the city while the storefront focuses on selling merchandise that locals and visitors enjoy. Owner Ben Thompson said the new storefront offers more space and a better environment for customers since parking is easier. Staying downtown also allows the store to stay a part of what, according to Thompson, makes Chillicothe special. Hometown Apparel is now located at 43 South Paint Street in Chillicothe. From house calls to headquarters, Gandolf vet practice expands in Zanesville
ZANESVILLE – There's more than one way to fix a cat – or a dog. That's the mission, and spectrum of care, Gandolf Veterinary Orthopedics & Surgery promotes. Dr. Rae Gandolf, owner and surgeon, started the mobile veterinary service in 2021 to help pet owners with mobility challenges or in underserved communities. Now a $286,590 Women Business Enterprise loan through the Ohio Department of Development will allow her to expand into a permanent storefront. "Having the brick and mortar in Zanesville would give me the capacity and would geographically help a lot of people out as well," Gandolf said. The loan goes toward a $210,000 real estate purchase and renovations of a former neurology office and its approximately 1,200-square-feet space at 2516 Bell Street, along with some equipment, she added. Renovations on the new office started in March, Gandolf noted, and she hopes to have it open in November. More: Community comes together for flood recovery benefit concert at Moose Lodge Gandolf's practice is on a mission, she said. She wants her advanced orthopedics, soft tissue surgeries, and trauma-related procedures to be more accessible and flexible to pet owners, whether it's physical distance or cost that is a limiting factor.

Ross County Humane Society celebrates completion of new shelter
CHILLICOTHE — After years of fundraising and hard work, the Ross County Humane Society is finally celebrating the grand opening of its brand-new shelter. More Ribbon Cuttings: Skate Park Opens in Yoctangee Park The new shelter provides separate office areas, multiple wings for dogs, a surgery suite and more. These improvements have made life easier for the dogs in the shelter and the staff who care for them. Executive Director Jenn Thomas previously explained that the separate wings help with noise control, which helps keep dogs calm while they are in the shelter. It also helps minimize the risk of diseases spreading. The shelter sees thousands of dogs each year, and the health and well-being of each one is a top priority. While the shelter has been in use throughout the summer, the recent celebration gave staff and board members a chance to celebrate the end results after years of hard work. The Chillicothe Ross Chamber of Commerce joined in on the celebration, bringing the giant scissors along for a ribbon cutting. President and CEO Mike Throne has a dog from the humane society and says it has changed his family for the better. He encourages all of those looking
