A Springfield Township man charged with a fatal shooting last year in Toledo’s Polish Village neighborhood was sent to prison Friday for 15 years to life after entering an Alford plea to murder in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Christian Beck, 26, of the 200 block of Connelsville Avenue, had been indicted for aggravated murder, murder, aggravated robbery, and felonious assault, all with gun specifications, in the Aug. 6 shooting death of Joshua Mickhail, 33, of the 400 block of Bronson Avenue. Police said Mickhail was shot at least once on his home’s porch.

The Alford plea means Beck did not admit guilt, but conceded sufficient evidence exists that he could face greater punishment if convicted by a jury of the indicted charges. At prosecutors’ request, Judge Michael Goulding dismissed the other charges and the gun specification on the murder count. Beck will be eligible for parole after 15 years.
