A robbery suspect was shot by a Toledo police officer Tuesday in the 200 block of Leland Avenue as law enforcement tried to take him into custody.

A U.S. Marshals Task Force was trying to serve a warrant against Kaden McCrory, 22, at his South Toledo home when the shooting occurred, police said.

Task force members made contact about 11:20 a.m. with Mr. McCrory’s mother, who confirmed he was in the home. When they found him in a bedroom, Mr. McCrory pointing what appeared to be a handgun at the officers.

An unnamed officer fired his handgun, striking Mr. McCrory, who remained inside the room as officers tried to get him to surrender. A Taser was also deployed to no effect. Mr. McCrory emerged from the room, holding arrows in one hand and the gun in the other. The officer again fired as barricade procedures were initiated. Surrender efforts continued with Mr. McCrory eventually removing the bedroom door. Aid was then rendered.

The gun was later determined to be a BB gun.

A Toledo Police Tactical medic arrived and took over lifesaving measures. Toledo Fire and Rescue Department transported Mr. McCrory to an area hospital. He is expected to survive, authorities said.

The officer who fired his weapon will be placed on paid administrative leave per collective bargaining agreements.

The incident remains under investigation.
