Korean Noodle Bar Closes in Downtown State College

A downtown State College restaurant specializing in customizable Korean noodle dishes has closed after about two years in business. Ramyun Studio, 208 E. Calder Way, permanently closed this week, according to a sign posted in the business' window. "We sincerely thank everyone who visited us and supported us throughout our journey," the sign reads. "Your support and kindness have meant so much to us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!" Owner Don Kim opened Ramyun Studio in October 2024 with a build-your-own concept for ramyun bowls, or instant noodle dishes similar to ramen, as well as kimchi and kimbap. The restaurant allowed diners to customize their ramyun with fresh ingredients, including broths and a variety of toppings. "By introducing Korean noodles, especially our own unique take on ramyun, we hope to provide the State College community with a taste of Korean tradition,” Kim said at the time. “State College is a diverse town with a vibrant mix of international students and locals, and we see an opportunity to create a space where everyone can come together and experience something new.” Ramyun Studio is the third food business on Calder Way to close in the last three months. State College may drop 'Little' from Little Lions. What to know about the rebranding effort

State College Area School District is weighing a rebranding that would introduce a new logo, lion mascot and motto while keeping its maroon and gray colors. Survey results showed strong support for dropping “Little” from the Little Lions name used by district athletic teams. FULL STORY: No more ‘Little’ Lions? State College Area School District may change logo, mascot, motto Here are key takeaways: A district rebranding committee is behind the proposal, which aims to create a more consistent and modern visual identity. The current logo was designed by a former student in 1985. High School Principal Laura Tobias said students don’t identify with being called “little,” and often chant “Go State” rather than “Go Little Lions” at athletic events. Assistant Superintendent Jonathan Bucher said the district’s eight elementary schools would keep their current mascots, and any new lion design should be “strong and powerful, yet not intimidating or mean-looking” to avoid confusion with Penn State’s Nittany Lion. The proposed new motto “Honor the Pride” would replace “We are the future!” School board member Jesse Barlow backed the change, saying he has long been puzzled by the Little Lions nickname. Costs have not been estimated, but Bucher said items like

Penn State basketball holds off Chattanooga, sets program record

It wasn't pretty in the second half, but the Nittany Lions ' men's basketball squad pulled out a narrow win over Chattanooga to improve to 2-0 on the year. The 97-93 final score reflects a second half dominated by the Mocs. However, the story of the game for Penn State was their ability to get to the free-throw line at an incredible rate. In fact, they broke the program record for free throws made in the waning moments of the game as Roko Prkacin sank the Nittany Lion's 43rd free throw of the night with 0.3 seconds left. Speaking of Prkacin, after his first game with the team saw him score the fourth-most points by a player in a Big Ten debut, he had half the production but another efficient night. He scored 14 points and only missed one of his six field goal attempts on the night. The leading scorer for the Nittany Lions may have been a bit of a surprise, though. Josh Reed had 25 points on the line due to his ability to get to the free-throw line. 15 of his 25 points came from the stripe. It was a similar story for Prkacin's Croatian counterpart
