On Monday, May 13, a ball hit the sprinklers in the main gym at Forest Grove High School, resulting in water damage across the floor. Due to the extent of the damages, the district plans to replace the entirety of the gym’s flooring. “After working closely with the insurance company and...

A heated exchange ensued between public officials and constituents...
Inaugural Hillsboro Film Festival creates a new hub for West Side cinema
In April 2023, Christi Dodge was Zoom-interviewing to be a board member of Bag&Baggage Productions. Her interviewer, the Hillsboro theater company’s Producing Artistic Director, Nik Whitcomb, started off with easy questions about her background in theater and arts. But Dodge was eager to get to the important stuff. Like most boards of arts organizations, one of B&B’s board’s most pressing tasks was to raise funds. And, like so many arts organizations just emerging from the pandemic, Bag&Baggage needed to raise a lot of money — the sooner, the better.

Portland area tax measures overwhelmingly approved at May 21 election
Portland area voters were surprisingly generous with the tax dollars at the May 21 primary election. Only one spending measure on the ballot was defeated in late unofficial results—a $149 million bond measure proposed by the Estacada School District. All of the others in the tri-county region passed, some by large margins. They included renewed or new property tax dollars for the Oregon Zoo, Portland Public Schools, the Portland Bureau of Transportation, flood protection along the Columbia River, and several public safety and park agencies. ...

Hops Weekly: Hops miss opportunity to gain ground on first place Spokane
For the third straight week, the Hops appeared poised to make serious strides in the NWL standings, but instead negated a fast start with a clunky finish to split with their weekly foe, in this case first place Spokane. After taking the first two games of their six-game set, Hillsboro managed to win just one of the final four and failed to gain any ground on the league-leading Indians. The...
Tenth inning rally leads Hops over Spokane 9-6
An inning after blowing a four-run lead, Hillsboro made right in a 9-6 win over Spokane on Saturday, June 8, at Avista Stadium. Jake Snider’s two-out grand slam in the ninth sent the game to extra innings, but the Hops responded with four runs of their own an inning later, getting the go-ahead hit from Andrew Pintar and later what would amount to the game-winner on a sacrifice fly to center from Christian Cerda. ...

One year after opening, a Washington County hotel turned housing facility is both helping and falling short of expectations
ALOHA, Ore. — One year after opening, a hotel turned housing facility in Washington County is providing an escape from homelessness to more than 50 people. While there are clear success stories, KGW also found that the new taxpayer-funded building isn’t quite being used as it was sold to the public — evidence of the gap between intent and reality in addressing the homelessness crisis.
Schools Update: Congratulations Class of 2024!
