Pinellas County recently opened a year-round sandbag site where neighbors can pick up pre-filled bags for free. Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill bringing back two tax holidays on hurricane preparedness supplies. Before that, the governor also signed bills adding more funding for the My Safe Florida Home Program, which gives grants for home hardening.

LARGO — A sudden, violent storm tore away almost two dozen roofs and carports in a large mobile home park here midday May 14, but remarkably there were no reported injuries. “My wife was in the next room and I was in the laundry room, but only the roof was damaged,” said John Harwood, a snowbird resident of the Pointe West mobile home park.
Tampa Weather: Rough weather prompts tornado watch, severe thunderstorm warning
TAMPA - Severe weather rolled through the Bay Area on Tuesday, prompting tornado watches and severe thunderstorm warnings for several counties. Citrus, Hernando and Sumter Counties were under a tornado watch until 1 p.m., while Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco Counties were under a severe thunderstorm warning until 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, but it has since expired. However, a very active line of storms will continue working its way east at about 25–30 miles per hour throughout the afternoon.
Mayor announces two new Equity Office positions
Mayor Ken Welch announced Tuesday that Rev. Kenneth Irby, senior pastor at the Historic Beth AME Church, will serve as St. Petersburg’s new faith and community justice liaison. Former City Councilmember Lisa Wheeler-Bowman, who lost a child to gun violence, will serve as the new community impact and safety liaison. Both will work underneath Carl Lavender, interim chief equity officer, to promote neighborhood health and security.
Tampa man convicted in drug trafficking scheme that helped move fentanyl, meth from Mexico to Florida
TAMPA, Fla. - Federal prosecutors said a Tampa man was part of a drug trafficking network, moving methamphetamine and fentanyl from Mexico to Tampa and Orlando. A U.S. District Judge found Enock Edouard guilty of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute and criminal contempt after a bench trial. Evidence presented in court shows how the network operated between 2021-2023, moving drugs from Mexico to California in car tires and then transporting the drugs to Orlando and Tampa.
