It began as a pandemic binge-watch for a true-crime fan and educator in Topanga. It ended with freedom for two men wrongly convicted of a 2003 drive-by murder. Jessica Jacobs Dirschel is an educator who became a tireless champion of Jofama Coleman, appearing in court, tracking down witnesses, even questioning investigators. Thanks to Dirschel’s efforts, and Coleman’s own, Coleman is now a free man after serving 19 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit.
