The world’s largest wildlife crossing is taking shape in Agoura Hills.

The Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing, which is currently being constructed over a stretch of the 101 freeway ( hence the overnight closures ), has been humming along, and one of its biggest champions is pleased with the progress.

KNX News’ Pete Demetriou spoke to Beth Pratt with the National Wildlife Federation about the ongoing construction. She said she’s happy with the progress so far, which consists of massive girders that are the foundation for the overcrossing.

“We're now at 10 and they're on track to place these by mid-May,” Pratt said. “And this is the first time we're seeing part of the horizontal structure, so it's really looking like the bridge it will become, and that's exciting.”

There will eventually be a total of 81 girders placed. So far, CalTrans is right on track with this project.

“Obviously, as you know, you can never predict, but so far they're hitting them like they should,” Pratt said.

She said the proof of the overcrossing success will come – not just with the completion – but with cameras that will show all of the different animals that’ll utilize it.
