ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. ( KLFY ) — Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents arrested a man who was allegedly found operating a boat while drunk, authorities said.

Travis Henderson, 43, of Thibodaux, is charged with driving while impaired (DWI) and operating a watercraft during a license suspension on April 20 in St. Martin Parish.

Officials said agents were on patrol on Grassy Lake when they made contact with Henderson, who was operating a vessel in the lake. Agents determined that Henderson was impaired and booked him into the Morgan City Police Department. Agents said that Henderson’s license was under suspension for a prior DWI.

In Louisiana, a DWI on the water carries the same penalties and fines as on the road and includes jail time, fines and loss of driving and boat operating privileges. Each offense of operating a vehicle or vessel while intoxicated also counts toward the total number of DWI crimes whether they happened on the water or road.
