Pirates return plenty of cross country experience
Much like last fall, the Waterloo cross country team has plenty of familiar faces back in the fold. The boys took a big step forward in 2023, finishing in third of the six teams in the “south” portion of the Capitol Conference meet and 12th of 21 teams at Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) sectionals. The Lake Ripley Country Club Women’s Organization started their Metalist/Low Net Tournament last week and will conclude August 20. There was a youth movement at the Prairie Athletic Club’s (PAC) Summer Open racquetball tournament this weekend with three teenagers putting in great performances. “The Outlaw” Shane Radtke Jr. of Johnson Creek laid claim to his first career Late Model feature win on Saturday evening at Jefferson Speedway. Dane County recognized for green power leadership
MADISON -Dane County has announced that it appears as No. 13 on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Top 30 On-site List of the largest green power users from the Green Power Partnership (GPP). The Jefferson County Senior Livestock Judging teams placed first and fifth and the Junior Livestock judging team placed fourth in the State 4-H Livestock judging contest. First annual Fill the Squad filled with people
WATERLOO — Waterloo Firemen’s Park Aug. 13 was filled with people for the first annual Fill the Squad event. Fill the Squad, which was organized by DJ Dorn from the Bridge Nutrition and the Waterloo police department, was busy with people riding the carousel, petting police K9 dogs, listening to live music and chatting with vendors from local businesses. A helicopter with a local army soldier stopped at the park so people could take photos and chat with the pilots.
Dairyland Collegiate League announces postseason honors
The 2024 Dairyland Collegiate League season has come and gone. The league put a bow on the year by announcing its annual quartet of postseason awards: Most Valuable Player, Pitcher of the Year, Reliever of the Year, and Freshman of the Year. Most Valuable Player was bestowed to James Love, a member of the Maunesha River Rats who plays collegiately at Eastern Illinois University. Trek to host collegiate national championship next year
WATERLOO — Trek Headquarters in Waterloo will be hosting a new event that projects to bring hundreds of athletes to the roads of Waterloo next May. Jefferson County seeking Fair Advisory Board members
Jefferson, Wis. — The Jefferson County Fair Park Committee is asking interested community members to apply for a position on the Fair Advisory Board. This body, created last year, serves in a purely advisory capacity. Its purpose is to preserve and improve the annual Jefferson County Fair by reviewing related policies and making recommendations to the Jefferson County Fair Park Committee to enhance the planning, development, and execution of the County Fair. In its first year, the Fair Advisory Board was invaluable in gathering community feedback to put on a successful 2024 County Fair. The Board meets between 10 and 15 times per year, with two-year terms that expire on August 31st. The Board can have a maximum of 20 members, with its membership currently sitting at 13. The Fair Park Committee will make the final selection at its September 12thmeeting based on relevant experience, with every effort made to find individuals who represent a cross section of local stakeholders.
New era begins for Waterloo football
The class of 2024 meant a lot to Waterloo athletics in recent years, most notably in football. Last year’s seniors enjoyed a 23-9 record since hitting the varsity level in 2021, which led the Pirates to three consecutive playoff appearances. Now, that group has graduated.
