Libraries across the nation are marking National Library Week with events and discussions to highlight the importance of these special community places.

According to the American Library Association, the theme this year is “Ready, Set, Library.” It is meant to highlight that “in our always-online world, libraries give us a green light to something truly special: a place to connect with others, learn new skills, and focus on what matters most,” the ALA states on its website.

Events at local libraries –– author talks, workshops, discussions, musical programs and more — allow community members to connect and build lasting relationships with one another.

“No matter where you find yourself on the roadmap through life’s journey—preparing for a new career, launching a business, or raising a family—the library provides an inclusive and supportive community where everyone belongs,” the ALA description notes.

Libraries are meant to be all-inclusive, with books about every and any subject matter.

The library association kicked off National Library Week with a State of Libraries report that includes a list of the Top Ten Most Challenged Books of 2023. The list can be found at https://www.ala.org/news/state-americas-libraries-report-2023.
