A shift from a dry to wet pattern ahead
It looks like it’s going to be another quiet day on the High Desert. Conditions will be sunny and temperatures will mainly be in the 60s across the region. Firefighters are planning to continue prescribed burning today on the Bend-Fort Rock and Sisters Ranger Districts. Don’t be surprised if you see some smoke in La Pine and along Highway 97. Smoke may also be visible from Sisters and Highway 20.
Art Adventure features Jana Charl
The Art Adventure Gallery in downtown Madras is opening their new show on May 2. This solo exhibition featuring Jana Charl is titled ‘Looking Up, Branching Out.’ The show will run through June 29, with an opening reception May 2 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Art Adventure Gallery will be open Wednesday through Saturday from noon to four during the summer. Charl is a native of Los Angeles and a dual US-Swiss citizen who currently resides on Hay Creek Ranch, where she creates mixed media works incorporating materials salvaged from her surroundings. Her installations, paintings, and sculptures are exhibited worldwide. She has been awarded public art projects in California, Oregon, and Massachusetts.
Military helicopter nighttime training over Central Oregon begins Wednesday
Some Central Oregon residents may hear a few more helicopters than normal flying in the nighttime skies through this weekend. The Oregon National Guard’s Biak Training Center in Powell Butte is hosting Army rotary wing night training missions from Wednesday through Monday. The visiting unit is from Joint Base Lewis-McChord near Tacoma, Wash.

Nine-month sentence for woman’s third-degree rape plea
WENATCHEE — A former Wenatchee woman must serve nine months in jail for sexually assaulting another woman three years ago. Cynthia Sue Collier, 52 was sentenced Wednesday in Chelan County Superior Court. Collier, who now lives in Redmond, Oregon, pleaded guilty in two months ago to third-degree sexual assault committed in December 2021.

More prescribed burning near La Pine, Sisters Wednesday
Here is an update from the Deschutes National Forest on planned burns on Wednesday:. Bend-Fort Rock Ranger District firefighters plan to continue prescribed burn operations adjacent to Paulina Lake Road approximately six miles northeast of La Pine and approximately two miles east of the Newberry Estates subdivision. On Wednesday, ignitions are planned for up to 248 acres (Odin North 15) along Paulina Lake Road. Ignitions are slated to begin around 10 a.m.
