Outdoors: Anglers seek white bass and walleye as turkey season continues
This week’s festivities are back on the Maumee River banks and Lake Erie waters. With the temperatures of the river warming more and more, pictures on the social media walleye sites include great numbers of white bass in coolers and on stringers and fewer walleye. And, this includes the usual questions of how to get the “lesser” fish to cook up right with varying recipes — from getting them fileted fast to take off the dark meat and use the back straps only, to a Frank’s hot sauce recipe. So how is Mario Campos’ bounty on those silver fish holding up?
Rita's Reflections: Following one's instincts can pay off
“The soul refuses all limits.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson Some mediums or psychics believe that a coating on the scalp at birth is a sign of an enhanced connection to the afterlife. When I was born, I had what was referred to as cradle cap. Now, I have no idea if there is any truth to the thought, but I have always had a heightened sense of awareness compared to most. ...
Toledo mom post blogs about children, challenges
Kat Tomasewski has a digital archive of her life as a mother dating back to 2011, around the time her youngest child was born. The now-single mom of three in 2008 began hosting outings around Toledo for other moms and their kids. But as her kids got older, she found she didn’t have the time to personally mingle with local moms. “I really enjoyed meeting up with other moms and just hearing their stories, where they're coming from, the struggles they're dealing with with motherhood,” Ms. Tomasewski, 44, said. “I still wanted to have that community and I still wanted to share fun things to do around Toledo, even though I couldn't necessarily go out and do that with a group of moms. So I decided, ‘You know what? I'm going to start a blog.’” In the fall of 2011, she launched the Mom on the go in Holy Toledo blog, and the corresponding Facebook page has since attracted 10,000 followers.

United Way of Monroe/Lenawee Counties: Relating to Petersburg
Recently, I once again attended the Summerfield Schools’ bi-monthly April Community Breakfast, hosted by Superintendent Scott Salow. These breakfast events are fun and informative. The Summerfield Schools leadership team learns about community happenings, and the community learns about Summerfield happenings. As I approached the outskirts of Petersburg on the way to the breakfast meeting, I felt myself getting a bit weepy. Petersburg reminds me of my Scheuerman family, and I don’t know if I was thinking...
