The city of Tempe is proud to recognize Mental Health Awareness Month and the national campaign to “Take the Moment” to help champion the importance of destigmatizing mental health.

Normalize the practice of taking moments to prioritize mental health care without guilt or shame; and connect to resources, events, activities and more that can boost all of your moments this month – and beyond, a city release stated.

Tempe is hosting the Be Kind to Your Mind 5K on Saturday, May 11 at 7:30 a.m. at Kiwanis Park, promising a fun and meaningful event.

Come together to raise awareness about mental health and show support for those who may be struggling, the release stated. Lace up your sneakers, bring your friends and family and hit the pavement to promote mental wellness. Every step counts towards breaking the stigma surrounding mental health.

Highlighting its crisis and counseling services, the release pointed to Tempe’s CARE & HOPE Line, CARE 7 program and counseling resources.

Tempe's CARE & HOPE Line is available 24/7 to connect residents in crisis to resources. Get help for yourself or others by calling 480-350-8004. Trained CARE 7 specialists can help anyone access city and community resources, the release detailed.

CARE 7, the city's crisis response program, assists the Tempe community with a wide range of resources including a Mental Health Response Team and mobile crisis services, according to the release.

Specialists assist at the moment of crisis and are also available as an ongoing resource to make connections to city and community services and programs. These crisis services are offered to the entire community.

In addition, CARE 7 provides a 24/7 crisis van, support groups, youth specialists and victim and veteran services. Call the CARE & HOPE Line to learn more.

Professional, low-cost mental health therapy is also available to the Tempe community through Counseling Services and its team of licensed, expert clinicians. The city serves people who live, attend a school, or have a child attending a school within Tempe, or referrals from other Tempe programs.

Counseling is available for individuals, families, students and couples. Fees are $5-$40 per session based on family size and income.

The Counseling Services team uses evidence-based, trauma-informed and culturally responsive therapeutic treatments to support individuals experiencing general mental health challenges, the release explained. These services are strictly confidential. Services are offered in English and Spanish; interpreter services are available.

Through Counseling Services, they strive to promote the health, equity and resiliency of our community. Call 480-350-5400 to get started.

Counseling Services offers a wide range of online resources. Visit tempe.gov/counseling to find everything from general mental health information to free support groups.

Tempe, in collaboration with Tempe Community Council, has also created a Mental Health Journey Map to assist residents with resources for all ages.

You'll find both city and nonprofit resources, support groups and important hotline numbers, also including some helpful information on ways to pay for care, the release explained. To request a copy, contact Community Health and Human Services at 480-350-5400.
