Arizona State University Police said they arrested more than 70 protesters last weekend after more than 200 people gathered on campus to call for a cease-fire in Gaza.

The protest was one of multiple ones across the state in what has been a growing movement calling for university officials to divest from Israel . Organizers said at least 25 students were arrested.

After protesters were told to vacate Alumni Lawn multiple times, campus police began arrests early Saturday alongside Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers and Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deputies.

What do we know about the arrests at the ASU protest?

At least 72 arrests were made at Arizona State University after protesters set up encampments on school property over the weekend, according to legal documents. Attorney Christina Carter said the potential charge listed would be a class 3 misdemeanor for criminal trespassing.

No charges have been brought yet. ASU police did not forward case information to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, said a spokesperson. While an initial 48-hour deadline was missed, cases can still be referred later.

Those arrested were as young as 19 and as old as 59, but the majority of those arrested were younger than 25, according to arrest records.

What charges could the protesters face?

All of the arrestees faced trespassing charges with the exception of one man who was arrested on suspicion of hitting his son in the face while under the influence of alcohol. It’s unclear if either father or son were participating in the protest.

Another man was booked for resisting arrest in addition to trespassing charges, according to arrest records.

    Where did the protesters live?

All arrestees were Arizona residents with addresses listed in the state, with the exception of a San Jose resident, an unhoused person and a person who was booked with an unknown address.

Of those arrested, 67 out of 72 were residents of Maricopa County. One man facing trespassing charges was a U.S. Marine on active duty.
