TAUNTON, Mass. (WPRI) — A Taunton woman has been found guilty of assaulting her boyfriend’s 2-year-old son back in 2019 .

The jury reached a verdict on Tuesday convicting Alanna Taylor of assault and battery of a child causing substantial bodily injury and witness intimidation.

Prosecutors said Taylor was watching the boy at a home on Somerset Avenue when she grabbed and threw him inside a bathroom.

The toddler had to undergo a five-hour surgery at Hasbro Children’s Hospital for what doctors believed to be blunt-force head trauma.

The child’s family said the boy has since been adopted and is doing well, though his health is being monitored.

After the verdict was announced Tuesday, the family released a statement to 12 News saying they’re “beyond relieved” to see Taylor brought to justice.

“Alanna deserves whatever punishment the judge hands down to her,” the statement read. “No child should ever have to go through what [the victim] went through, and he will have to live with the physical scars and emotional scars as he gets older and unfortunately learns about this incident.”

The family went on to say the boy will be “forever be safe and always loved.”

Taylor is scheduled to be sentenced on May 16 in Fall River District Court.
