TAUNTON, Mass. (WPRI) — Taunton High School will honor former athletes, coaches and teams by setting up a sports Hall of Fame later this year.
Taunton Superintendent John J. Cabral and Athletic Director Mark Ottavianelli made the announcement Thursday, saying the hall will highlight the school’s “rich sports history.”
Ottavainelli called the decision a “no-brainer.”
“This is a great way to honor their dedication and hard work, and to inspire our current and future students to reach their full potential,” Cabral added in a press release.

Nominations are open to the public and can be submitted on the Hall of Fame’s website or by printing and returning a paper form to the athletics department. Officials said the deadline for the first class is May 31, 2024.
Nominees can fall into six categories, each of which has its own rules of eligibility : student-athlete, coach, team, administrator, classic, and contributor.
Taunton High Athletic Hall of Fame: View the eligibility for each category Inductees will be selected by an 11-person Hall of Fame Committee consisting of past and present school employees, coaches, journalists, and community members, officials said.
The first class of up to 10 inductees will be announced later this year, and an induction ceremony will be held at the school.
