A Tuesday morning house fire on Fairview Avenue in Taneytown has resulted in 32 animals — including dogs, rabbits and a hedgehog — being displaced. The Humane Society of Carroll County is housing the animals and asking the public for assistance in caring for them.

The fire originated in the house’s kitchen on Tuesday morning, according to the Taneytown Police Department. Animal rescue and smoke ventilation efforts began after the fire was extinguished, the Taneytown Police Department announced on Facebook on Tuesday.

To properly care for so many animals, the humane society is requesting donations. In addition to monetary support, the organization will accept chopped-up hot dogs in ziploc bags, small collars, soft dog treats, cans of Pedigree or Purina wet dog food, Pedigree wet dog food pouches, and gift cards to Bowmans, Walmart, Target or PetSmart. Donations can be made in person at 2517 Littlestown Pike, Westminster or online at https://hscarroll.org/donate/. In-person donations may be dropped off, but the society requests that donated hot dogs be handed to a staff member so they can be refrigerated.

Taneytown residents may also drop off donations at the police station, 120 E Baltimore St. According to the police department, donations of bleach, Fabuloso household cleaner and bath towels are also requested.

The animals will be ready for adoption in several months, according to the humane society, as they will need time to recover.

Anyone interested in fostering an animal may email mfidler@carrollcountymd.gov .
