TALLULAH, La.  ( KTVE/KARD ) — The City of Tallulah held a special meeting on Wednesday, May 15th, to discuss future plans regarding their water system.

For several years, community members in Tallulah have dealt with dirt and debris in their water. This is the water that they drink and bathe in.

Three options were discussed, including the possibility of entering a receivership, Sustainability Partnerships coming in to fix the issues, or a possible tie to The Walnut Bayou Association, a nearby water plant.

Resident Stephanie McKnight believes that the receivership is the best option. She says, “we need the government to take over and put us into receivership, because there’s no way this is going to happen with just the people here.”

City Councilman Toriano Wells says that before a decision is made, an assessment of the current water system needs to take place.

A decision was made that will allow Sustainability Partnerships to do a free test of the current water system, and assess what problems need to be fixed.

At the meeting, residents did not contain their feelings and emotions in relation to these issues. Wells says that “it was pretty explosive, confrontational a little bit.” He elaborates on when things such as the Tallulah water situation are being discussed, confrontation is unavoidable.

The vote was pushed back, and will take place on Thursday, May 23rd.
