A motorcyclist was hit and killed Thursday night on Apalachee Parkway, according to the Tallahassee Police Department.

Police arrived at the intersection of Apalachee Parkway and Southwood Plantation Road, where the man "sadly succumbed to his injuries on scene," according to a TPD social media update.

Eastbound lanes on Apalachee Parkway from Sutor Road to Southwood Plantation Road were closed last night while the crash was being investigated. "Motorists are urged to avoid the area," TPD said. "Updates will be provided as more information becomes available."

This is the third motorcyclist death in Leon County this year. On Feb. 27, an 18-year-old was hit and killed on his motorcycle by a pickup truck as he was riding along Crawfordville Road in Leon County.

A week later, another man driving his motorcycle along Blair Stone Road approaching Mahan Drive "suddenly lost control and crashed," dying on scene.
