$1.7M Knoxville restaurant could transform vacant lot north of downtown | Exclusive
A new $1.7 million restaurant space will fill a long-abandoned property next to Axle Logistics' headquarters just north of downtown Knoxville. Planning documents associated with the 825 N. Central St. project categorize the space as a "restaurant/bakery" but do not identify a tenant. Knox News was unable to reach the developer for a construction timeline, but crews were working on the building's exterior Oct. 14. The Knoxville City Council in June awarded local firm Paragon Development $75,000 from its Historic Preservation and Facade Improvement Fund for the project. During the June meeting, Councilmember Charles Thomas said restoring the blighted property is exactly the type of redevelopment the city needs. Get the Daily Briefing newsletter: Keep up with what's being built around Knoxville and Knox County "This is a critical place on Central between places that have been redeveloped and look nice," he said. "This is a gap where nothing has been done." Paragon purchased the land in 2025 for $495,000 and subsequently demolished most of the vacant office building on site. The same development group is behind other projects north of downtown, including townhomes at the former Dempster Building near Emory Place. In documents submitted to City Council, Paragon projects

Archer's BBQ founder names his new Knoxville restaurant, reveals the menu
Scruffy Pig is the name of the new barbecue restaurant coming to North Central Street from the founder of Archer's BBQ, and a newly launched website offers the first look at the menu. We don't know the timeline for opening, but William "Archer" Bagley III previously told Knox News he hopes to be serving customers by the end of the year. The website features a menu with highlights that include barbecue sandwiches, brisket, pulled pork, smoked chicken and St. Louis ribs. The restaurant will offer loaded trays and family meals, according to scruffypig.com , and the list of starters includes brisket mac bombs and Texas Twinkies, which pack smoked jalapeno, cheese and barbecue into a shareable appetizer. Bagley, who opened Archer's BBQ in 2011 and grew the brand to six locations, is partnering with longtime friend, events space owner and Happy Holler landlord Daniel Schuh on the project. Scruffy Pig will be located in the former home of Hops and Holler, which closed in 2022 . The following year, Bagley opened and closed prime steakhouse Fire and Smoke, which is now under new ownership , and abruptly closed all of the Archer's locations.
