SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — New York State Governor Kathy Hochul announced two big projects coming to Central New York.

These plans derive from $12 million going towards infrastructure improvements to boost mobility and safety.

The first being a $3.7 million rehabilitation of the I-81 bridge, over East Colvin Street in Syracuse.

A date has yet to be announced.

When construction starts, traffic on I-81 in both directions will be impacted, and shifted to one side.

The DOT hopes to wrap up its work on the bridge by the end of 2024.

The second announcement is a $8.3 million intersection improvement project in Cicero.

A new roundabout is in the works for State Route 31. This will be at the intersection of Thompson Road and Torchwood Lane, near the Walgreens and Rite Aid.

The project also calls for left turn lanes on Route 31 and South Bay Road, as well as resurfacing roads, restoring drainage and adding a sidewalk near Cicero-North Syracuse High School.

Construction on the roundabout is expected to begin next year.
