Court docs: Man fired shots at deputies from home in Sedalia
SEDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ) A man was charged with assault and other felonies on Monday after allegedly firing shots at deputies from a residence on Sadie Lane in Sedalia on Sunday. Jonathan Parkhurst was charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon. This includes all concerts and events in the State Fair Grandstand, the Governor’s Ham Breakfast, and $12 advance adult gate admission. Minor transported to two hospitals following emergency at Heckart Community Center
SEDALIA — A minor was transported to a local hospital Monday afternoon following an emergency in the aquatics area of Sedalia's Heckart Community Center. The news release from the city parks and recreation department says life-saving measures were taken by lifeguards, the Pettis County Ambulance District, the Sedalia Fire Department and the Sedalia Police Department. The minor has since been transferred to another hospital.

In the small town of Palmyra, Missouri, northwest of Hannibal (the hometown of Mark Twain), a historical property has taken on new life as Cole’s Hearth Room. Now an elevated American restaurant, the Hearth Room was a farmstead whose original barns and silo were built in 1846. During the Civil War, gurneys filled the halls of the main building so the home could function as a hospital. When the farm’s owners lost the home during the Great Depression, the adjacent Greenwood Cemetery developed it into a caretaker’s house. In 2006, Chef Coltin Cole and his wife, Deidra, purchased and began renovating the property.
