With a footprint larger than a typical home, a sprawling East Village loft-style condo offers the rare chance to live, work or combine the two in a space Realtor BJ Knapp calls a “one-of-one” experience. Locals and visitors passing The Creamery ice cream shop and Aimée fashion boutique at 424 E. Locust St. might never guess that a sprawling 5,075-square-foot residence sits just above them. “There's so much room, so much space,” Knapp said. The condo’s size, location and possibilities are unusual, and so is its $1.2 million asking price, which was set using sales of smaller penthouses across the metro as comparisons. The condo delivers classic downtown loft style with hardwood floors, exposed brick, a gas fireplace and a wall of windows that fills the expansive main space with natural light. The open-plan kitchen includes an island and existing equipment, and Knapp noted that if future owners were considering remodeling, there is immediate potential to create a showstopping kitchen. The entire building and some of its neighbors date back to 1880, with this section undergoing extensive renovations in 2012. September saw increases in inventory in the Des Moines area housing market as well as strong sales and an increase in home values. Despite expectations of a fall market cooldown, active listings in the Des Moines area rose 14.2% in September to 5,028 active listings. Last month also saw an increase of 4.8% in closed sales to a total of 1,207, up from 1,152 in September of 2025.

Microsoft pays $95.5 million for Dallas County farmland

Technology giant Microsoft Corp. has finalized its acquisition of 616 acres on which it plans to build a data center campus in Dallas County, real estate records show. The Redmond, Wash.-based company appears to have used Trammell Crow Co. to acquire the land, according to the records. Trammell Crow, a commercial real estate development and investment firm headquartered in Dallas, Texas, acquired the property through TC Austin Acquisitions LLC, paying just over $30.7 million, or nearly $50,000 an acre. The transactions were recorded Oct. 15.
