Northern Lights visible Thursday night with more mild & dry conditions Friday
There is not much to complain about when it comes to the weather conditions in the Northland this Thursday. A high-pressure system to our west is doing its best to keep us dry, but some cloud cover at times and a light breeze is keeping highs closer to seasonal than earlier this week with highs in the upper 50s and 60s. Clouds will move out of the region Thursday night, allowing the Northern Lights to be visible, as winds also calm. That will cool temperatures to the 30s and low 40s for lows. Friday will see a return of a southerly breeze by the afternoon, which will continue to keep temperatures mild for October standards with highs in the upper 50s and 60s with more sunshine.

First Alert Weather: High pressure to clear the sky for nigh on a week
WEATHER STORY: An Omega High is a blocking high that takes on the shape of the Greek letter omega as clouds go up and around the cloud crusher. It’s too early to tell if this week’s high will be of the omega variety but it will block the progression of lows from Tuesday to Saturday and make things sunny around here. Only rain chances are a slight one on Monday and a better shot next Sunday. Normals: 38 and 55.

A cool & breezy start to October with widespread inland frost overnight
Happy Thursday, Northland! Quite a warm end to September, with virtually everyone save some spots along the North Shore getting into the 70s for highs. Along the I-35 corridor and the South Shore, we saw upper 70s and lower 80s which made it feel more like summer. Today will be quite different as a cold front passes its way through. This cold front will make northwest winds quite blustery with gusts of over 20 mph likely and over 30 mph possible, mainly along the North Shore. This will keep temperatures near seasonal for the day, with highs ranging from the mid-50s in northern Minnesota to the lower 60s, with some spots along the South Shore possibly seeing upper 60s. With clear skies persisting into the overnight hours, we can see temperatures dip quite close to freezing away from Lake Superior with widespread frost expected and a few spots getting below freezing. The seasonal temperatures will last us through the remainder of the week into the weekend while conditions stay mostly dry.
