The Del Webb Sun Cities Museum will host a special birthday party Friday, May 17, to celebrate the 125 th birthday of Sun City’s founder, Delbert Eugene Webb.

The museum will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. May 17 to celebrate  Webb’s birthday. Museum members and guests are invited to visit the museum and enjoy festivities that will include free ice cream and exhibits focusing on the life of Del Webb.

Of special interest will be the inaugural showing of the museum’s first “history-maker” video presentation made possible by a grant from the Del E. Webb Foundation. The foundation last year provided a grant to the museum that will fund five video interviews of individuals who played a role in the development of Sun City and Sun City West.

The first interview features Don Tuffs, a former president of the Sun Cities Area Historical Society and the first manager of the Sundome Center for Performing Arts in Sun City West. Tuffs will share stories of the Sundome and the many artists who have performed on its stage.

The world premiere of the film will be at 11 a.m. in the museum’s Constance McMillin Gallery. After the initial showing, the film will be available for viewing in the Sundome Jr. Theater.

The second history-makers film, currently in production, will feature Ed Allen, a former president of the Sun Cities Area Historical Society and author of a book celebrating the 25 th anniversary of Sun City West. Allen will share his recollections of the historical society’s growth over the years, with a special emphasis on the transition of the museum’s headquarters.

The historical society purchased the first model home constructed in Sun City in 1989 and Allen will share stories of how the museum evolved and changed over time.

Free ice cream will be provided throughout the day, courtesy of Tim and Amy Nixon, owners of The Nixon Group. The Nixon Group is the sponsor of the Del Webb Birthday Celebration.

Admission to the museum is free to members, and $5 for non-members. Visit www.delwebbsuncitiesmuseum.org for information.
