North Carolina is one of the sneaky best pizza states in the country, and one of the biggest food magazines just named our best pizzeria. The wood-fired pies from Mission Pizza Napoletana have been named the best pizzas in North Carolina by Food & Wine magazine. The famed Winston-Salem spot has a stack of national accolades, including a James Beard semifinalist nod for Best Chef: Southeast for owner Peyton Smith. While pizza is now and forever the star at Mission, Food & Wine notes that Smith makes much more than pies, including his popular “Pizzakase” dinners, a prix fixe meal of dishes. “His Pizzakase experience includes a multi-course pizza tasting menu that celebrates all things pizza (i.e., techniques, ingredients, preparations, etc.) around the world, while his à la carte menu changes frequently, always including wood-fired pizzas with an airy and chewy crust and thoughtfully sourced toppings,” Food & Wine wrote in a blurb.
