Pinehurst Pizza Passes the Pie to the Next Generation

Pinehurst Pizza is tossing things up as ownership moves to the next generation. August Beechler and his wife, Lynne, opened Pinehurst Pizza in 2011, not long after moving to Pinehurst from New Jersey, in the pursuit of golf. These days, his son, AJ and daughter-in-law Sam, are all in on the family business. “I’ve always known I was either going to play golf or take over Pinehurst Pizza,” says AJ Beechler. The young couple also owns Beechler Farms, which sells sourdough and other natural products which they plan to incorporate into Pinehurst Pizza.

North Carolina is one of the sneaky best pizza states in the country, and one of the biggest food magazines just named our best pizzeria. The wood-fired pies from Mission Pizza Napoletana have been named the best pizzas in North Carolina by Food & Wine magazine. The famed Winston-Salem spot has a stack of national accolades, including a James Beard semifinalist nod for Best Chef: Southeast for owner Peyton Smith. While pizza is now and forever the star at Mission, Food & Wine notes that Smith makes much more than pies, including his popular “Pizzakase” dinners, a prix fixe meal of dishes. “His Pizzakase experience includes a multi-course pizza tasting menu that celebrates all things pizza (i.e., techniques, ingredients, preparations, etc.) around the world, while his à la carte menu changes frequently, always including wood-fired pizzas with an airy and chewy crust and thoughtfully sourced toppings,” Food & Wine wrote in a blurb. Chili's margaritas caused burns after degreasing chemical was added: NC county

Three customers suffered burns from margaritas at a Chili’s Grill and Bar, after the popular cocktails were prepared with a toxic degreasing chemical, according to health department officials in western North Carolina. It happened Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Chili’s in Forest City, about a 65-mile drive west from uptown Charlotte. The powdered chemical was added after being mistaken for sugar, the Foothills Health District reported in an Oct. 29 news release. In addition to the three customers, two restaurant employees reported having “symptoms after exposure to the substance,” officials said. Details of their injuries were not released. “According to preliminary findings ... a restaurant employee received granulated degreasing chemical from a contract worker who was power washing the exterior, and placed it into an unlabeled container. The container was brought inside the restaurant and left in the bar area,” the health department said. “On the morning of October 28, an employee preparing the bar for lunch service discovered the unlabeled container and, believing the contents to be sugar, used the chemical to prepare the margarita station.” Chili’s issued a statement on the mishap, calling it “an isolated incident” that resulted in injuries. “Our team took immediate action to support
