STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Remembering those who were killed while working along Pennsylvania’s roads.

The PennDOT Workers Memorial commemorates the 90 lives that were lost since PennDOT began in 1970.

These were workers who died on the job in work zones.

The white hard hats represent the foremen while the orange hard hats represent the various workers.

This memorial travels around the state and helps to bring awareness to these workplace tragedies and to remind drivers to be careful.

“There’s only cones sometimes separating these workers from moving traffic and just an instant, just one mistake might cost someone their lives and everyone is just trying to get home to their families, and so, just be cautious out there,” said PennDOT Press Officer Sean Brown.

Brown says to give yourself more time and be patient when you get to work areas.

Many measures were taken over the years to help prevent these tragedies.

Recently, legislation passed that allowed speed cameras to be used at work zones.
