Westbound lanes of the Turner Turnpike, along with the Stroud Service Plaza, will be closed between State Highway 99 and the service plaza Friday night.

Construction crews will be installing bridge beams between 9 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Saturday as they rebuild the Old Stroud Bridge Road crossing over the turnpike. Drivers will be detoured at the SH 99 exit to Stroud to westbound State Highway 66 to northbound State Highway 18 and back to westbound Interstate 44/Turner Turnpike at Chandler.

The eastbound lanes of the Turner Turnpike also will be closed between SH 18 at Chandler and SH 99 at Stroud from 9 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday for the same bridge work. The eastbound work will include the closing of the Chandler Service Plaza during those times.

The turnpike was previously closed in February for removal of the original bridge, which was part of the original turnpike opened in 1953.

Reconstruction of the Old Stroud Road bridge is part of an $8.3 million addition of a two-way frontage road between Old Stroud Road and SH 99. The project also includes street reconstruction and shoulder improvements approaching the Stroud service plaza.

Construction is expected to wrap up by late 2024. The project is being done in preparation for the upcoming reconstruction of the Stroud service plaza and widening of the turnpike as part of ACCESS Oklahoma.
