It was another successful day for Beaver Valley cross country runners, with a pair of individuals and teams claiming gold at the PIAA high school cross country championships at Big Spring High School in Newelle, Pa. Headlining the Beaver Valley field was Quaker Valley senior Jonah Montagnese, who capped off an impressive cross-country career with a pair of WPIAL and PIAA gold medals during his junior and senior campaigns. Here is how the rest of the Beaver Valley field competed at the state meet. Class 1A Girls It was a golden day for OLSH, with senior Mira Mosca claiming individual gold with a time of 19:05 and her team consisting of Eva Crofford, Hannah Hayes, Jules Goshen, Ellie Green, Lindsay Bressler and Diianna DelTondo, hoisting the team title with 49 points. The victory put OLSH 59 points ahead of second-place finisher and fellow WPIAL program Winchester Thurston. Beaver County plans events to observe Veterans Day 2026

Beaver County will salute its military veterans with some special events in honor of Veterans Day, Nov. 11 . Because Nov. 11 is also a federal holiday, the county courthouse and other government offices will be closed. There will be no U.S. mail delivery and many local banks will also be closed. Here are some of the events planned to honor veterans in and around Beaver County. A "Salute to Veterans: Honoring Service, Inspiring Community" event is taking place from 12:30-4:30 p.m. Nov. 7 along 10th Street in downtown New Brighton. The free community-oriented event to honor veterans starts with a flag raising ceremony led by the PA District 37 Freemasons and members of the American Legion, along with the singing of the National Anthem by local student Kash Stevenson. Other activities include touch-a-truck with fire, medic, law enforcement and military vehicles, children's activities by WQED, Home Depot and Neighborhood North Museum of Play, local vendors and food trucks and veterans organizations offering information and resources for veterans and their families. SRMC nurse nets 10th DAISY Award for care

Salem Regional Medical Center has awarded its 10 th DAISY Award, which recognizes outstanding nurses across the country who go above and beyond in providing compassionate care. Richelle Shetler, inpatient unit director of the hospital’s Tower 2 and ICU, received the award, which is the hospital’s 10 th since the program began in 2024. She was nominated by a co-worker. "Richelle always puts the patient first. She is a great listener and finds solutions to problems. Her caring attitude is infectious,” the nomination said. Leigh Knife, the director of nursing at SRMC, said Shetler works to protect patients throughout their care journey. “Richelle perfectly embodies our hospital’s commitment to excellence through her outstanding leadership and skills,” Knife said. “Her kindness and compassion make a meaningful difference for our patients, and we are truly grateful to have her as a member of our nursing team.” Shetler received a special certificate and a $100 award given on behalf of the George Kimble Scholarship, which was established in 2012 in memory of past SRMC patient George H.
