STRATFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — The first female engineer hired by Vought Sikorsky turned 100 on Wednesday.

The Stratford woman, Jean Tucker was hired back in 1943.

Locals held an event on Wednesday to celebrate Tucker and all the Connecticut women who helped the World War 2 effort from home.

As an engineer, Tucker made design changes and improvements to aircraft parts.

“I was working with all men, go for it,” Tucker said.

The now 100-year-old shared her story and talked about what she wants for the next generation.
