Newly-crowned Miss Maryland USA is first Asian American and transgender woman to win pageant
BALTIMORE -- The newly-crowned Miss Maryland USA made history on June 1 by becoming the first Asian American to win the crown in the annual pageant and the first transgender woman to attain the title of Miss Maryland. Competing in her first pageant, 31-year-old Montgomery County-raised Bailey Anne Kennedy now holds the crown and represents Maryland in the Miss USA pageant. Transgender women have been able to compete in the pageants since 2013 but a rule was eliminated this year that forbade anybody from entering the competition if they were older than 28. Northern Virginia public schools enforce new cellphone policy
Starting this fall, Stafford County Public Schools will enforce a new policy prohibiting students from using cellphones from the beginning to the end of the school day. This ban, also adopted by districts in Fredericksburg and Winchester, aims to minimize distractions and enhance focus. Maryland to end Key Bridge collapse relief programs this month
BALTIMORE, MD—The state of Maryland has announced that the Francis Scott Key Bridge worker and business relief programs will sunset on June 28, 2024. The programs were established to help Maryland workers and businesses impacted by the Key Bridge collapse. The Container Store plans July opening in Loudoun
