Girls golf: Voight sets pace for Stillwater at Jewel Invite

LAKE CITY — The Stillwater girls golf team finished in a tie for ninth place out of 12 teams in the Jewel Invite on Wednesday, May 1 at The Jewel Golf Club.

Led by individual medalist Jordana Windhorst with a 1-under par 70, Lake City prevailed on its home course with a winning total of 311. The Tigers finished comfortably ahead of runner-up Byron (334) and third-place Holy Family (339). The Ponies matched Red Wing in ninth with a score of 376.

Kylie Voight paced the Ponies with an 89, which was good enough to tie for 22nd in the individual standings. Vyan Abdullah followed with a 90 while Jenna Voight and Addison Schinka completed the scoring with a 98 and 99.

Nora Roberts posted a 100 and Sam Schinka finished at 106 for Stillwater, which was scheduled to compete in a Suburban East Conference meet at Troy Burne on May 2.

Ponies 3rd at North Oaks

At North Oaks, the Ponies turned in their lowest nine-hole score of the season while placing third in a Suburban East Conference meet on Monday, April 29 at North Oaks Golf Club.

White Bear Lake edged East Ridge 171-172 for the top spot while Stillwater followed with a score of 174, seven shots ahead of Mounds View (181) and Forest Lake (181).

Nora Roberts led the way for the Ponies with a 41 and Sam Schinka was on her heels with a 43. Vyan Abdullah and Lauren Roberts carded matching 45s to complete the scoring while Kylie Voight and Addison Schinka each followed with a 48.

It was the team’s best conference showing of the season after placing fourth in an 18-hole event at Prestwick and fifth at Highland National.
